IV. OCTOBER GOLDEN OLDIES SENIOR TOURNAMENT, Oct 12 & 13, North Glynn Courts
Sponsors—19 Sponsors mostly obtained by Teresa Peeples. We’ll wait to give any money to the North Glynn Group until after the tournament. Chick-Fil-A (Brunswick) will send chicken box lunches on Saturday.
Entries—There are 83 players right now. Might lose a few players due to not enough players in brackets. Locals vs Out of Towners—we don’t have that info yet. Mary and Teresa will send out more info on social media in hopes of getting more folks registered to play. Mike’s Parkinson’s group will be on Thursday and he’ll encourage attendance at both the dinner and tournament. Bill will send a letter to the Glynn County Finance Committee to ask for a court fees waiver.
Beneficiary—Mike McKinney from Glynn County Parkinson’s Support Group Organization, said that folks had to go out of town to Jacksonville or Savannah for any Parkinson’s treatment prior to their nonprofit. Now there are 3 Physical Therapists that are trained for Parkinson’s treatment. The Club and The YMCA started adaptive fitness programs through info from Jacksonville treatment. 50-70 come to the programs. Tuesday/Thursday 1pm at The Club. Parkinson’s Boxing and Chair Yoga Monday & Friday at 12pm at The YMCA. They have 300 active emails within their group. This is the only support group between Savannah and Jacksonville. Studies are finding out that many of the symptoms are triggered by the environmental conditions. There are 5 stages of Parkinson’s and their programs can handle up to Stage 4 at The Club and then folks can go to Chair Yoga at the Y. Their nonprofit will have a table at the tournament.
Volunteers—Give out t-shirts & support pickleball gift, give out Saturday’s lunch tickets, we’ll have a 9am start time both mornings (setup 8am), no need for runners, need a lunch ticket taker, pull up court screens for viewing (will ask county to do), courts 6-12, parking in parking lot (not gravel road), signs for parking at entrance (Teresa P), Steve, Bob & David are handling the hotdogs on Sunday (Murray purchasing items as needed).
Friday Night BBQ, 6pm—Social Committee has everything set for setup, dinner, and cleanup. There will be pickleball games after dinner that David Neville has planned. Need to let folks know to bring their paddles on Friday night. Folks need to Venmo Bill by Wed, Oct 9 for the Friday night BBQ.
