In attendance: Murray Pounds, Mary Kline, Bill Carmichael, Susan Gleeslin, Karen Figueroa, Theresa Ellis
I. Meeting was called to order by Murray at 10:06AM.
II. Motion was made by Bill to accept the minutes from the April 10, 2024, seconded by Mary, passed unanimously.
III. FINANCIAL REPORT, Treasurer Bill Carmichael
Revenues, Expenditures-SSIP has $23,000 in the bank currently
Membership—169 members
IV. UPDATE ON MEETING WITH THE NORTH GLYNN PICKLEBALL AMBASSADORS, Murray and Bill reporting
Discussions continue on North Glynn and SSIP working together. Talks of possibly a new name to encompasss all---Golden Isles Pickleball (??), Bill reported that a name change is easy to do. Part of the idea is to grow membership to have a larger voice in the community. Continued talks with the North Glynn folks to coordinate the October Senior Tournament.
V. TOURNAMENT/LEAGUE UPDATE, Bill reporting
October Senior Tournament at North Glynn Complex—Bill spoke with Southern Pickleball and confirmed October 12-13, 2024. They discussed 100 participants, 8 courts, 1 day. $60/one division, $15 for extra division, $40 goes to Southern Pickleball. We discussed 6 courts and 2 days for an overnight stay for those out of town. Considering a BBQ on Friday night. Participants get just a t-shirt, no goody bag. Possible name of tournament—Golden Oldies Tournament
November Tournament—Theresa will talk to Teresa Peeples about a local Parkingson’s group. Theresa will pull together a list of 3-5 local charities that might be possible non-profits to give money to from our tournaments.
Pickleball Paddle Battle III in April—the raffles brought in $611, discussion of increasing it to $1,000. Motion made by Bill to round up to $1,000, seconded by Mary, passed unanimously. Theresa will reach out to Shelly for a photo op with Murray.
VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Competition Committee—no report at this time
Social Committee—Summer Beach Party, 5:30PM, Saturday, June 15. Changed the location to Massengale Park for better parking and restroom facilities.
Social Media/Publicity Committee—Murray is planning on a newsletter in July. Susan & Mary will collaborate on interviewing visitors for the newsletter.
VII. CLUB APPAREL, LOGO DESIGN, Murray reporting
Threadless—Murray showed a tshirt on Threadless website with our new logo on it. Mary will look at women’s tshirts with Murray.
We all agreed we like the logo that Murray got from Tavel Cowan. We had a discussion on paying her for her time and expertise. Motion made by Mary to pay Tavel Cowan $250, seconded by Susan. Unanimous vote to pay Tavel Cowan $250.
VIII. OTHER MATTERS
Is sunshade coverage in the Glynn County 2025 budget? Budget is not final yet but it is in the proposed budget.
Murray will reach out to John Gentry again this coming month.
More discussion on moveable nets for the dual-use courts. Concerns about folks being willing to take responsibility to put them away when play time is done.
